Philmont Scout Ranch and Tyrannosaurus rex

On display at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History is a cast of the ONLY confirmed T rex track in the world. That king of the tyrant dinosaur lizards left minimal evidence of their life and some of that data is from Philmont, Elephant Butte, and the Farmington area.

The site of the actual track is a remote area of the Philmont. The scouts visiting the ranch have cordoned off the area and somewhat protected the track from both weather and unwanted visitors. The cast is in the atrium of the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. For more information on the museum visit their website - www.nmnaturalhistory.com.

Public access to Philmont is primarily via their museums which offer much to the usually surprised visitors. More than 800,000 scouts have experienced Philmont since 1939. That 70 year history has had positive impact on both scouts, their leaders, and the public. Find more information at http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HighAdventure/Philmont.aspx.

Philmont does not provide lodging for the public. We invite you to make Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza your lodging and hotel headquarters while your explore and experience Northern NM. Philmont and Cimarron and Whitington Center can be combined intto a single day trip from Taos or done seperately depending upon your speed of each visit. We're offering fall rates as low as $49 for one or two Guests (you won't likely beat that in Taos) in our value rooms. We also offer our deluxe single king beds for $69. Those rates are for direct bookings only. 800-444-2346. Hotel website is www.newmex.com/indianhillsinn.
