Just did a google check on "Indian Hills Inn, Taos". Way over 20,000 sites returned with our name. I admit I am an internet junky and a forum junky but I have NOT posted our name in 20,000+ places. Boy, I wish I had 20,000 sites pointing to our site, not everyone elses!
What that means to you is that when you look for any hotel in any town, drill down throught the many paid listings and 3rd party listings until you find the properties direct website. That means it will take extra effort on your behalf. Although the net does provide many benefits to some of our needs, it is totally confusing and much harder than some means of research form the past.
Your reward for that added work will be the most accurate information from someone who really knows the area you are visiting plus they know the property better than ABC online booking system, Xpta, sleep.com, TW, or any other 3rd party system. You might also be better able to negotiate with that human on the other end of the phone rather than your computer and some unkown faceless online travel agency doing lunch and costing both of us money.
It is almost always less costly for you to reserve your room direct with a property than using most online systems, including the hotel's website. Every step added between you and the hotel adds costs, potential errors, some communication challenges, and maybe more restrictive business practices.
If you'll research town activities before you travel, you'll have a better handle on how negotiable rates may be. For example, if you are visiting Taos during a peak weekend or holiday period, rates both online and direct will likely be higher than when you visit from now until ski season. That same idea applies to most areas.
Specifically, from one low cost (they claim that) online agency, your rate tonight for us would range from about $65 to $80. Our rates for walk ins is from $49 to $69. If you're lucky enough to have a coupon tonight, the rate will be $54.33. In other words, call us and every other stop you make direct. It will likely save both of us money.
