Hello Snow! Taos Mountains Blanketed!

Woke up today with snow falling. Courtyard at hotel grass covered with maybe an inch of white stuff. Kind of gets the blood flowing for the skier in us.

Guess that means that it's time (if you haven't already started your conditioning regimine) to get on the bike for a few minutes daily, push the weight bench out from under that stack of boxes and use it for it's intended purpose, train on that skiers edge for a few minutes every day. IF (big word) you do that, you WILL enjoy your ski or riding days more than if you don't. It's that simple!

Guess you can also visit Taos between now and ski / ride snow season start and make a few hikes along the Rio Grande Gorge to enhnace your aclimation to our 9,000 foot plus ski terrain. Probably late for mountian trail hikes but doing anything rigorous at 7 to 8000 feet will help build your endurance. So many of our winter ski visitors arrive with little or no physical preparation that I simply want to encourage highly that you invest that time now to vastly imporve the fun quotient then.

Traditional Taos Ski Valley openning is Wednesday before Thanksgiving Pray for snow to make that happen. I don't know the exact percentages but they hit that about 75% of the time. Check out their website for the Taos Card. It's a great deal and eases the ski day.

Sipapu usually opens as soon as they have adequate snow, sometimes as much as a few weeks earlier. Their lift tickets are always the best value anywhere in the West PLUS we usually have discount coupons or packages at Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza.

Angel Fire's scheduled openning is mid December. Snow conditions always set the final open date at all the areas.

Keep your eye on the ski shop fall sales in your area. The more recent equipment is really amazing at what it can do for your skiing. If you're skiing on 10 year old skis, I seriously recommend either buying a sale package or renting when you get here. Boots are more warm and comfy, skis are awesome, etc. Begin to make those decisions a earlier rather than the day before you depart. Most of us make better decsions with a bit of extra time instead of rush rush rush.

It's kind of exciting the talk about skiing. Hope your first run this year is as good and fun as your last run last season. Ski safely. Read the resonsibility code. Costco has great deals on helmets.

NO ONE SELLS ROOMS FOR A BETTER VALUE! Conveniently located in downtown Taos, your after ski choices are much wider than anywhere else on the Enchanted Circle or nearby : environs. Email me any questions or special needs: indianhills@newmex.com. Remember our Pay 3, the 4th is FREE package, good most dates other than Christmas and holiday. www.newmex.com/indianhillsinn then call direct for best values 800-444-2346 (please don't complain when you book elsewhere and find out you could have done better direct - :-( ).
