Taos 2009 Fall Festivals

Taos during the fall offers visitors MANY interesting sights, sounds, activities, and experiences. You'll find somethjing exciting just about every week from now until Thanksgiving (and beyond). Here are a few highlights. There are loads of other things to do and sights to see.

Probably one of the best guides is published by Taos News. The 2009 version is not online at this moment but we hope it will soon be available. Here's a link to their guide area - http://taosnews.com/taos_area_guides/.

This Saturday is the Enchanted Circle Century Bicycle race. It's a wild 90 to 100 mile trip around the Enchanted Circle. Riders climb over 3 passes over 9,000 feet. Best historic time is around 4 1/2 hours. Starts in Red River. We've got a group from Denver visiting and staying with us for the fun. Drive carefully and be aware of the riders around you. Thanks!

Sunday offers another bicycle event, Top of the World Bike Race, at Enchanted Forest XC Ski & Snowshoe area, just East of Red River. Information: http://www.redrivernewmex.com/MtnBikeREG.htm.

Starting this weekend, art enthusiasts can venture North for the Rio Costilla Studio Tour. Costilla is abobut 45 miles North of Taos on NM 522. While there, drive up to the old Ski Rio, drive Eastward up the Rio Costilla valley. The views are spectacular, the art will be exquisite. More info at http://www.riocostillastudiotour.org/.

As you return to Taos, a side trip out to the Wild & Scenic Rivers part of the Rio Grande Gorge is in order. Turn West just North of Questa. We suggest at least walking out to the high mesa point above the confluence of the Red River and Rio Grande. If you're luck enough to be there at sunset (about 7:15 PM) you just might be awestruck! If you're there early enough to do a bit of hiking, there are 6 improved trails into the gorge and along the waters edge. Remember to take layered clothing and water!

The best part of your weekend visit to Taos will be your stay at Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza. Call toll free 1-800-444-2346 for reservations today! Visit www.newmex.com/indianhillsinn for more information. This independent small business appreciates your business!
