If you love fall colors, if you enjoy trains, if you look forward to great entertainment, Cumbres & Toltec is your venue! Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza has been a long time supporter of Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR. Cumbres is a steam powered, 1880's rolling museum that travels from Chama to Antonito crossing the NM - Colorado border nmumberous times. Cumbres is the 10,000 foot mountian pass the train climbs to from each end.
For those who enjoy fall colors, love to photo great scenery, Cumbres offers awesome vistas of trees beginning their journey from summer greens to fall colors. As you wind your way up the tracks, you'll be amazed at the great Kodak moments around every bend of the twisty narrow guage train.
If you want a murder mystery experience on board, Cumbres offers that dinner theater play trip October 2, 2009. Here's the details. http://campaign.constantcontact.com/render?v=001VYL78RL2HxfhHQsCU26Z2cXaPwp-PhXwkGL1wQEKFdZxSZdJ38vjJpzfOwIAXdtGSKqfa0m13rzbAaLXfZzC_t28DmvJrsBJJijLt1btCu9jL7TD1NHvSLNmMsjPdWaPaedWwzyngFs%3D
If you choose the day time trip, my suggestion is to stay with us in Taos (of course). Organize your tickets the day before to make certain they have space available. Arise early, drive to Antonito, pick up your tickets, and enjoy the day!
IMPORTANT! In my opinion, you want to take the trip that busses you to Chama first and returns to Antonito by train. I believe it's trip 3. Why? First, it's easier to drive to Antonito early in the AM than to Chama. Second, you want to take the train out of Chama because that grade is the steepest climb on the train and the engine really has it's work on that chug up the Cumbers pass.
Book your nights at Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza. You'll find us well located in downtown Taos about 2 blocks South of historic Taos Plaza. Guests are appreciating our memory foam mattress toppers, plush mattress pads, triple sheeting, and SW design comfortors. Our front desk team offers great Guest service almost like "tour guides". All of that and the most reasonable downtown rates in Taos. 800-444-2346 or visit www.newmex.com/indianhillsinn . Enjoy fall in the area around Taos!
