Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR Starts May 22, 2010

It is almost that time of year, Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR begins regular narrow guage steam powered train trips from Chama, New Mexico to Antonito, Colorado Satuday, May 22, 2010.  If you've been on the trip before, you will enjoy again.  If you've always wanted a steam powered museum ride, let's plan that trip now, today!  The season runs to October 17, 2010.

Although they offer a number of differing trips, my advice is to plan to stay in Taos the night before and after your planned trip.  Although all trips are quite enjoyable, the most enjoyable trip for steam enthusiasts is #3.  That trip involves driving to Antonito, Colorado, about a hour and a half from Taos.  Leave Taos by about 6:30 AM.  Collect your tickets at the station in Antonito around 8 AM.  This ride includes lunch at Osier.

Cumbres will motorcoach you to Chama at about 8:30 AM.  You'll arrive with time to catch the 10 AM departure from Chama.  The key reason for choosing trip #3 is that the steepest grade on this route is from Chama to Osier.  The museum steam engine will huff and puff it's way up towards Cumbres pass.  With big days, they sometimes double head the train with two steam engines.  The old work horses will impress even the none train fans.

Check out their web site for far more details than appropriate in this blog.  Here's the link: http://www.cumbrestoltec.com/.

If you'd like us to help you schedule your trip and make the arrangements, call the hotel.  We'll make your hotel and train reservation.  Our Room & Ride package is two nights lodging and the train ride for $265 for a single and $370 for two.  The rate is plus tax and requires prepayment.

You may also book your room seperately and the train directly with them.  There are a couple upgrades for the train which you may review either with us or on their web site.  There are also specials and special trips that are listed on their web site.

We'll also gladly organize more activities for your Taos visit such as rafting, hot air balloon ride, Llama Trip, golf, or self guided tours and drives.  We're your Taos Lodging Connection.
