Taos Activities Invite You To Experience Taos!

Taos Pueblo will be closed 12/2/10 all day for remembering the loss of a member.  It is always a good idea to check with the Pueblo when making your travel plans.  http://www.taospueblo.com/ or 575-758-1028.

Downtown parking meeters offer 2 hours free parking thru January 1, 2011 at hooded meters.  In addition, many local merchants are offering you a tax break.  Participating merchants have a window sticker stating "Buy Here, We'll Pay the Tax".  It's a white and black sticker/notice.  Thanks to Jan Mellor at the Taos Gallery for organizing this promotion!  http://www.taosgallery.com/

12/3 – 4 to 6 pm, 24th Annual Yuletide Caroling and Tree Lighting, Historic Taos Plaza. Join us for some great entertainment, Yuletide Parade, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will attend as well as a special appearance by the Grinch. Complimentary hot chocolate, cookies and view the lighting of the Christmas Tree! Taos Plaza and businesses will be open to foot traffic so that you can shop for your holiday gifts. During this fun filled event vehicles will not be permitted in the plaza. Special parking arrangements will be provided for people requiring ADA access to the event. 12/11 – 5 to 7 pm, Annual Lighting of Ledoux and Harwood Museum Expansion Opening: The Lighting of Ledoux is a festive, free, glowing street party–to which you’re invited! Enjoy free music, food, and other entertainment offerings. Shops, museums and galleries keep their doors open late for shoppers and people who just want to stroll and enjoy. This year marks a special occasion with the opening of the University of New Mexico’s Harwood Museum of Art expansion. 12/11 – 1to 4 pm, 9th Annual Christmas Carnival, Taos Youth & Family Center, Admission is Free to the Carnival. There will be various carnival games with prizes! Proceeds from the carnival games will benefit non-profit organizations. As usual you can play arcade games, play pool or do some skating. The Holiday Skating Exhibition provided by the Skating Club of Taos featuring Santa Claus and Dr. Seuss’ the Grinch from 1:15 PM – 1:30 PM. Bring the children to visit with Santa Claus. 12/24 and 25: Create Unforgettable Holiday Memories at Taos Pueblo --Witness the traditional dances and procession at Taos Pueblo. "The Christmas Eve Procession of the Virgin" on 12/24 begins at sundown. Then on 12/15, Christmas Day­­, see the traditional "Taos Pueblo Deer Dance" beginning at 2 p.m. The Pueblo may perform the Matachines Dance starting on 12/24, as well.
