Perhaps one of the best Guest comments is the silent one, the returning, repeat Guest who doesn't blog, Facebook, Twitter, or do online stuff.  They just keep returning and referring.  Yesterday, I overheard several reservations calls that were returning Guests.  We really appreciate your confidence in our small business and wanted to say thanks again!

Reel Injun with Neil Diamond at TCA

Taos Center for the Arts presents Native Cinema Showcase Taos screening of "Reel Injun".  A number of famed hollywood actors participate in this entertaining look back at the portrayal of the North American Natives through a 100 years of movies.  Tickets are $10 and available at TCA 575-758-2053.  Showtime is this Wednesday, August 18, 2010, 7:30 PM at Taos Community Auditorium.

School has started for many school districts so traffic is a bit slower.  Shorter waits, easier traffic, still loads to see and do in and around the Taos area.  They're still river rafting althought the flow rate is lower and the thrill level is a bit more modest.  A search of Taos will yield loads of things to see and do.  Note: if those plans include back country driving, hiking, or biking, remember this is our monsoon season.  Sudden downpours can change conditions quickly.  Be like the boy scout motto - be prepared.

As usual with TCA events, Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza is the ONLY hotel who'll discount your room by half the ticket price.  Bring in your stub.  We'll take half the ticket cost for 1 ticket off your room rate.  Only 1 discount per night of stay.  Not available with any other specials or discounts.  Half priced entertainment is just the ticket!

We may have a little commotion around the Inn for the next couple weeks.  We're getting new fresh carpet.  Biggest question from Guests has been the oldest carpet in the 2 queen rooms.  Problem/question soon to be answered.  Thanks for your patience.

Looking for Carpet and Tile Installation Layers

Our next step of work on the Indian Hills Inn is about to commence.  First, we need about 20 SF of floor tile installed in each of 20 rooms.  Second, we need someone to install about 1500 yeards of carpet.  We have the carpet and pad.  Appreciate any referrals of such skilled trades.  Thanks.

You can forward them to this post, they can email: indianhills"at"newmex.com (change the "at" to a @), call the hotel at 575-758-4293, or call me at 505-298-7007.  Calling me or emailing is probably best.

Rio Grande Lave Tube Spring Video

Although I generally know a little about a lot, this is the first I've heard of a lava tube spring anywhere let alone in the Rio Grande a bit North of Taos.  The linked youtube video is partially a slide show - click the pause button in the early portions so as to be able to read the slide show written information.  This is a spring with enough water flow to appear much like a gravel volvano.  Really neat video!  Thanks to Melody Romancito for finding this tidbit of Taos information.

You may want to print the map segment if a day of exploration is in your plans.  If you include that trip, be careful, hike prepared, make certain you are prepared for what you embark upon.  They also mention other lava tube caves near San Antonio Mountain which also offers an interesting day trip for hiking and exploration.

In other words, here's a couple of other reasons to make your stay in Taos more than just a night or two.  As you search and seek, you'll find that a full week may not be enough to really get to know your earth, your New Mexico, and your Taos area!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDZ87gjyXrc

For your Rio Grande gravel spring volcano tour, we'd welcome you to Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza.  For those who follow our blog and other posts, the hot water boiler problem has been solved.  We gave some very patient Guests unbelievable deals for a night or two without hot water.  Thanks to all for your understanding!

As a reminder, August is what we refer to as the monsoon season in NM.  Doesn't happen every year nor every day.  This year it looks to be one of the wet years.  Many afternoons, the thunder storms build, especially around the mountains, that's us, and the waters come down.  Just a couple weeks back, the mountains between Taos and Santa Fe were covered with snow at the very tops.  An amazing sight in the middle of summer in the high desert.  Too soon to call it termination dust (end of summer).

That's good news for your river rafters, keeps the water flow up a bit and the fun at it's peak.  There must have been 20 rafts in the Rio Grande that I saw while driving past, probably more.  Cisco at Los Rios River Runners said that they are keeping trip participants enjoying themselves much.  We've had many Guests return from a day on the river with wide eyes and big grins!  If you're a hiker, just be aware of the probability of weather changes occurring.  http://www.losriosriverrunners.com/

We do appreciate your reading and sharing our blog/twitter/Facebook biz page and posts.  Here's an online direct booking special for August.  Print this page/post and show to front desk at check in.  Make your reservation direct by calling 800-444-2346.  August rates usually begin at $79 for a single, add $8 for each added Guest or pet in room.  Some nights you may negotiate a slightly lower rate with military or other discount.  Average rate in Taos is closer to $100 a night in August.  ONLINE BLOG/TWITTER/FACEBOOK SPECIAL DISCOUNT $20 OFF ALREADY NEGOTIATED RATE.  Special does NOT apply to any rates under $59 a night for single.  No other discounts apply/only 1 discount per room.  Does NOT apply to any reservation made online or at any other travel agent website.  Call 800-444-2346 NOW!
