Have we forgetten critical thinking? How about history?

Or is it not taught in the results empty school systems of today? Isn't critical thinking necessary by citizens everywhere, all the time? If we don't learn or know history, hasn't it been said that we are doomed to repeat it?

For example, one of the heros os the USA perhaps needs to be remembered:

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take away everything you have. ~Thomas Jefferson

Current government activities certainly make me think, wonder, and worry. That concern applies to every level of government from small towns to the US Federal system.
