It's a Cold Day in Taos and more!

Just returned from a quick trip to Taos.  First want to thank Quality NM for a good job on their Strategic Plannign seminar.  BTW, if you're planning a ski trip, be prepared!  It's cold on the hills around and in Taos.  Layers are the word!  Warm up gear available at Adventure Ski Shops store at Indian Hills Inn along with ski and board rentals.

A couple of upcoming new food and drinkeries are coming to the downtown area.  One with an outdoor patio available (not important with this weather) and the other a brew pub.  More later.  Both within walking distance of Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza.

Many thanks to everyone who's called and bought Sipapu lift tickets to get FREE and MASSIVELY discounted rooms.  And for your referrals of family and friends.  For some dates, we may have trouble meeting your lodging needs.  We are also going to add the $20 surcharge for Spring Break dates.  Will post details in the next couple days.

And another reminder about Taos Ski Valley's Earnie Blake Ski School Taos Ski Week special.  Normally $250 for 6 days of 2 hour lessons, for the rest of January each Sunday start week is only $99.  For that highly rated school (by all the mags and pros), that is the deal of the year.  Get a week off!  We'll do a weekly for $249 single, add $25 for 2nd Guest.  As I've noted before, that is almost HALF OFF, 50% of the cost of most other lodging place offerings.  Why go or even call anywhere else?

Taos Chamber Music Group presents "The Art of Cello: A Celebation" Saturday @ 7:30 PM & Sunday @ 4 PM, January 22 & 23, 2011 at Arthur Bell Auditorium at the UNM Harwood Museum of Art.  Here's the link for more details of this exciting concert.  http://www.taoschambermusicgroup.org/inthepress
As normal for local performances, Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza will discount your room by 50% of the cost of 1 ticket to this show.

Another couple of small storms expected near the end of this week.  Any added snow is always welcome at Sipapu, Taos, and Angel Fire.

We still have rooms for Matin Luther King weekend.  Book now!

Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza is always just about the best location available in Taos.  You'll find yourself just a couple blocks from historic Taos Plaza and right across the street from a large grocery store with Taos best price gas station (Smiths, Kroger, et al).  You'll find clean and comfortable mid priced lodging with new carpet (12/10), 25-27" TVs w/full cable and HBO.  Choose from standard family rooms with 2 queen beds or deluxe single king bed rooms with gas log fireplaces, all beds with memory foam mattress toppers (great nights sleep).  Perhaps our highest comments are made for our Guest Service Associates and their ability to be your "tour guide" while you're in the Taos area.  For those on a budget, most folks appreciate our affordable pricing of nightly lodging and weekly rates.

Taos Ski Week Specials

Sometimes people think "specials" mean value.  If you haven't already figured it out, that is not necessarily nor always accurate.

The reason I say that is because I just got an email from some of the hotels in Taos Ski Valley.  They are pushing their "free" ski week package.  NONE of their web sites actually post the special package pricing nor inclusions.

BUT, just using their posted January 2011 rates, if you are seeking value, you'll do far better with booking your room at Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza.  At the valley chamber website, 7 properties are offering the "special".  Some properties are right in TSV, others are located in or near the town of Taos.  Prices range from a low of $900 to highs ranging from $1533 and far up the scale..  Lift tickets are NOT included with the packages.  The Taos Ski Valley Ski Week for 2 Guests is included.  So they are offering from $119 to $219 per night for rate.

Here's why Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza may be the choice for you.  For our nightly lodging for 2 Guests, we'll charge you $274 for a week.  That's $39.14 per night...for 2 of you!  Add to that the cost of the Taos Ski Week program at $99 per person for the 6 day school, that's $14.14 per day per person or $67.43 per day for 2.  That equals $471.98 for an equal package for 2 for the week!  In other words, Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza is just about half the cost of any of the other "package deals" offered.

What can we say?  We almost always offer Taos Best Lodging Values.  Period!  End of story.  If you can't fit this exceptional ski week in your schedule, we ask you to share with anyone else who might be able to organize their schedule to get off for the most incredible ski week they've ever enjoyed.  Tell them to email or call us.  Ask them to visit our blog/twitter/facebook/linkedin page to learn more.

Uncertain of what you'll get with Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza?  First, you'll be right in the heart of downtown Taos with more stuff going on than we can possible explain here.  Second, you'll get a room with either a single king bed or two queen sized beds.  Carpet is new December 2010.  Bath rooms are clean and comfortable, furnishings and decor are with a Southwest flavor.  Our front desk team is selected, trained, and known for great Guest service.  And our values are unheard of for a ski town, anywhere, anytime!

Fresh Powder Covers Taos Area Resorts

Most important information of the day is a storm is upon us!
Taos reports 8" last 24 hours
Sipapu reports 6+" since Wednesday
Angel Fire reports 2"
Town of Taos has about 2"

Snow is expected for much of Thursday for North Central Mountains.  This fresh snow means skiing is finally improving and generally good at all area resorts.  The shortage of good snow means the crowds are less than most Christmas holidays.  In other words, load your gear, call and reserve your room, ski you in Taos!

As a reminder, Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza is a Town of Taos Lodging Partner with Sipapu.  Beginning Sunday night January 2, 2011 for skiing on Monday January 3, 2011, when you buy your lift ticket for Sipapu from Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza ($39 adult), you get free lodging.  Double occupancy offer.  Singles require a two night stay.  Friday, Saturday, and peak weekend Sundays require a $20 surcharge on the room.  You will not find a better value.  Period!

Frustrated with your skiing ability?  Tired of being a terminal beginner or intermediate?  Really want to improve?  Taos Ski Week is the RX for a cure!  Program starts every Sunday and goes thru the following  Friday.  Includes a 2 hour lesson every morning.  Normal price of $250 for the week has been slashed by 60% to $99 for all January start dates - 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th.  We'll provide your lodging for $249 single and $274 double.  If you yearn to ski better, thiat program is THE ANSWER.

There are still a few days of the holiday to join us in Taos.  Our rooms are lower than any of the last 5 years.  Mention this post and we'll do rooms from $99 single (that's $30 off our rack rates).  That's for direct bookings!

Taos Pueblo does their annual Turtle Dance on January 1, 2011.  Thursday January 6, 2011 they hold their Deer Dance celebration.  http://www.taospueblo.com/

If the hassle of bringing your equipment on a flight from there to here has you riled, we've got Adventure Ski Shops right here at Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza to make your travels as easy as can be.  With at least a $5 a day discount (I haven't asked about weekly rentals), you'll be able to relax during your travels to and fro when you rent here in Taos.  http://www.adventureskishops.com/   800-433-1321

Dreamin of A Whte Christmas - Snow's On The Way!

Writing the blog from Taos this AM.  Cooler and very cludy.  News shows snow showers all over North half of NM.  Forecast is for 6" or more in the Northern NM Mountains and ski resorts.  Pray for MORE!!!  The season has been very dry so far so this storm is important for all area ski resorts.

TCA offers The Met Live in HD over the next 5 months.  They are offering about half a dozen shows beamed by satellite to TCA.  Go to http://www.tcataos.org/ for details of what and when.  Most of us won't get to NY to see these awesome shows.  Just another great reason to add Taos to your travel plans in 2011.  Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza supports the arts and will discount our room rate by 50% of the cost of 1 ticket for The Met Live in HD from TCA.

It's even less likely most of us will travel to London for their theater activities.  But, you can visit Taos and see National Theater of London shows such as Hamlet, Fela, King Lear, Frankenstein, or the Cherry Orchard all at TCA.  Again, http://www.tcataos.org/ for details and dates.  Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza wants you to make Taos a regular stop on your entertainment schedule.  We'll offer half of one ticket price off your overnight lodging.

March 31 and April 1, 2011, Marlo Guthrie will be doing a concert at Taos Community Auditorium with the Burns Sisters.  Goes almost without saying, we'll offer Guests the same fantastic discount offer.  See you soon for one of the above entertainment opportunities.

Again, not that we've done over 250 blog posts over the last year or so.  If you like what you see, stop back often.  We're always seeking new activities and up to date reports on what's going on in and around Taos.  Hope you'll "follow" the blog, "like" our Facebook page, connect with me on Facebook, tell your family and friends about our specials.

Angel Fire shows to most snow last 24 hours with 8".

Taos Ski Valley reports 6" since yesterday's report.

All of those reports say very clearly, spring skiing is better than great.  Fresh snow during spring is a welcome blessing.  If you can figure out how to get a couple days off, the season is winding down and you'd better get here soon!

Taos Area Summary Snow Report 03/25/10

Looks like this storm has past and another one on the way for the weekend!  This has been simply an amazing spring for fresh snow all around the Enchanted Circle.

Angel Fire claims 4" last 24 hours with a 9" total from storm
Taos reports 3" and a total of 10" last 3 days
Sipapu gained only a trace plus the 3" yesterday

Seems I stirred up a hornets nest with one acquaintance on Facebook.  He wants to argue about my link to the Sharpton statement about Obama and Socialism.  If you missed the video, here it is: http://talkabouttaostourism.blogspot.com/2010/03/believe-it-of-not-al-sharpton-on-obama.html

Learned yesterday the Los Rios River Rafting is already scheduling trips on the Rio Grande.  Fortunately, they supply wet suits (I' may prefer a dry suit at this time).  Ask at our front desk for details and numbers to book your trip from now until the river transforms into a dust bowl (late summer).

It's also a good time to bring your mountain bike for some of our low area rides.  At the 7,000 foot level, the snow is almost all gone already.  Yeh spring!

Hope we see you soon.  Late season super special rates apply to all direct bookings.  I don't think you'll find better prices than by calling us direct.  Value rooms from $39 single, family rooms from $49, and deluxe kings from $59.  Great location, Awesome service, Best sleep in Taos, and Affordable.  That's Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza.

Angel Fire reports 5" fresh since yesterday
Taos posts 7" new snow in 24 hours
Sipapu shows 5" with $25 lift tickets (that has to be the deal of the year!)

Since it is spring skiing, Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza also posts super saver rates.  We'll do singles fro $40 a night.  We'll do 3 night packages for as low as $99.  I've said it here before, those are unheard of ski area lodging rates.  They are the best deal in Taos, PERIOD!.  Possibly at any ski area anywhere.

As we work our way into spring, perhaps you'll want to make your Memorial Day weekend reservations.  Maybe it's time to think about Taos Solar Music Fest weekend.  Other peak dates will be 4th of July weekend, Taos Pueblo Pow Wow, and the annual Taos party, Fiesta!  Rates are always higher for those dates.  Our downtown location is always a sought after place to lay your head!

For the next couple days, visitors will LOVE our warm, inviting, beautiful blue skies. Bring sun screen! Remember, you're skiing over 10,000 ft. elevation most of the time. The sun's burning rays are more intense here in NM that most other places. We suggest using the highest SPF sun screen you can find.

We called around to the other Taos hotels the last couple days. Many are full already for spring break. Most sold out at somewhat higher prices than our current rates. Similar to the airlines, as we fill our rates may increase a bit. We'll still be lower than anyone else in downtown Taos! Our current rate is $89 for singles. We too are nearing full for some of the spring break days over the next couple weeks. I suggest you call now!

The senior citizens are starting their spring sojourn of travel. We welcome you all to Taos and invite you to Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza. You'll find us conveniently located in downtown Taos, with clean and comfortable rooms, offering service levels well above our price point, and the best value in Taos. Multi night specials make us even more affordable! Ask for that 3, 4, or 5 night discount!
